From last 4 years, abhisays.com has been full entertainment site, now the time has come to go professional. I am going to celebrate ITIL week on abhisays.com. So from 11th June to 17th June, you will find plenty of ITIL related articles, videos, resources on this site. To start with, let me give you a brief introduction to ITIL.
ITIL stands for Information Technology Infrastructure Library. It is a set of concepts and practices for Information Technology Services Management (ITSM), Information Technology (IT) development and IT operations.
ITIL gives detailed descriptions of a number of important IT practices and provides comprehensive checklists, tasks and procedures that any IT organization can tailor to its needs. Always remember, the names ITIL and IT Infrastructure Library are registered trademarks of the United Kingdom’s Office of Government Commerce (OGC).
ITIL v3 is an extension of ITIL v2 and will fully replace it following the completion of the withdrawal period on 30 June 2011. ITIL v3 provides a more holistic perspective on the full life cycle of services, covering the entire IT organization and all supporting components needed to deliver services to the customer, whereas v2 focused on specific activities directly related to service delivery and support. Most of the v2 activities remained untouched in v3, but some significant changes in terminology were introduced in order to facilitate the expansion.
ITIL V3 is divided into 5 parts ::
1. ITIL Service Strategy
2. ITIL Service Design
3. ITIL Service Transition
4. ITIL Service Operation
5. ITIL Continual Service Improvement
Soon we will discuss each and every part in detail. But before this let’s know more about ITIL V3 foundation certification.
The ITIL V3 Foundation Level is the entry level qualification which offers candidates a general awareness of the key elements, concepts and terminology used in the ITIL V3 Service Lifecycle, including the linkages between Lifecycle stages, the processes used and their contribution to Service Management practices.

The ITIL certification is designed to show expertise in ITIL service support and service delivery.
